About the project
The Loke Centre for Trophoblast Research brings together more than 30 Cambridge research groups studying the placenta, early embryo development and how mother and fetus interact during pregnancy. It offers fully funded PhD studentships on a menu of advertised projects, for example how the placenta invades the uterus, epigenetic effects of maternal nutrition, effects of GLP-1 drugs on the placenta in obese pregnancy, and imaging human implantation. You choose a project, contact the supervisors, and apply through the Centre. Students join the Postgraduate School of Life Sciences, take a placental biology course, present at away days and international meetings, and receive £15, 000 for research consumables plus conference travel support. Interviews take place in late November 2026 and early January 2027.
