About the project
France is building a digital twin of its territory, led by IGN, Cerema and Inria, using huge volumes of airborne LiDAR and satellite surface data. This PhD will create efficient ways to detect three-dimensional changes in cities and describe them with simple geometric shapes such as planes and 3D polygons, rather than raw point clouds, so that results scale and feed directly into building reconstruction. A second goal is to study how these changes are spread across space and time, from districts up to the whole country, and link them to urban growth and architectural change. The work combines geometry processing, 3D computer vision, machine learning and statistics.
Who this suits: EduSail Abroad mentor note
Suits an Indian M.Tech in computer vision, geoinformatics or remote sensing with strong C++/Python and 3D point-cloud or geometry experience.
